Veteran batter Brendan Taylor has become the highest run-scorer for Zimbabwe in One Day Internationals (ODIs), overtaking the record previously held by Andy Flower.
Taylor, 40, achieved this milestone during Zimbabwe’s tri-nation series match against Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi. The series also features Afghanistan.
In the match, Taylor scored 81 runs off 101 balls, including 10 fours, maintaining a strike rate of 80.20. Having made his ODI debut in 2004, Taylor has amassed 6,837 runs in 211 matches and 209 innings, averaging 35.24 with a strike rate of 76.55. His career includes 11 centuries and 40 half-centuries, with a highest score of 145 not out.
He surpassed Andy Flower, who scored 6,786 runs in 213 matches and 208 innings at an average of 35.34, with four centuries and 55 half-centuries.
After returning to international cricket last year, Taylor has played across all formats for Zimbabwe. Since his return, he has participated in six ODIs, scoring 153 runs at an average of 25.5, including one half-century. Across all formats in this period, he has made 535 runs in 23 matches and 22 innings at an average of 25.47, registering a century and a half-century.
In the tri-series match against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first but were initially reduced to 24 runs for three wickets. However, partnerships involving Taylor and veteran Craig Ervine, who scored 93 runs off 106 balls with nine fours, helped Zimbabwe reach 271 for eight in their 50 overs.
Bangladesh bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam were the most successful, taking three wickets for 44 runs and two wickets for 47 runs respectively.
