Italy-based Zimbabwe international Jordan Zemura has announced the launch of a charity initiative with the aim of using the power of sport to empower young people from underprivileged backgrounds.
The 24-year-old Udinese player is the first Zimbabwean to ply trade in the Italian Serie A.
Zemura left English Premier League side Bournemouth last year at the expiry of his contract before completing a move to Italy.
He was born in England to Zimbabwean parents but has maintained a close connection with his African roots.

The rising star, who is currently in the middle of a pre-season camp in Germany with his Udinese teamates ahead of the new season announced the launch of his new charity initiative in a stamens on his official Instagram page.
“I am thrilled to announce the launch of the Jordan Zemura Foundation, a Zimbabwe-based charity dedicated to empowering children through sport and mentorship!
“Our mission is to provide opportunities for young minds to grow, learn and thrive both on and off the pitch. During my break from football this summer and while I was with the Zimbabwe national team, we kicked off our first of many football tournaments in Zimbabwe! Follow our journey, together we can inspire and uplift our youth through the power of sport and mentorship.”
Zemura’s foundation was launched in June with a Under 12 football tournament which saw a number of junior teams from across the country participating.
Zemura said he plans to capacitate gifted athletes and empower them academically.
