Top Zimbabwean female triathlete Andie Kuipers won a gold medal in the U23 Women’s category at the 2025 Africa Triathlon Championships Nelson Mandela Bay at Hobie Beach in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on Saturday.
Kuipers was the first woman to come out of the water in the swim and she held on to her lead on the bike despite the strong winds.
The 23-year-old further consolidated her lead in the run and created a sizable gap to the finish line to win in two hours, seventeen minutes and 18 seconds.

She was followed by Kenya’s Megan Irungu in 2:38:46, with the only other participant in the women’s U23 category, South Africaan athlete Aimee Roux failing to finish the race which consisted of 1,5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run.
The win in South Africa marked a winning return to competition for Kuipers after missing the Bonaqua Africa Triathlon Cup Troutbeck in Nyanga last month due to an achilles injury.
Meanwhile South African Shanae Williams and Jawad Abdelmoula of Morocco were respectively crowned the women’s and men’s winners of the elite category at 2025 Africa Triathlon Championships Nelson Mandela Bay at Hobie Beach on Saturday.
The elite race consisted of a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run.
