Zimbabwe international Bruce Houston has moved to the top of the English Rugby Championship points-scoring charts after making an impressive start to his debut season with Coventry Rugby.
Houston has scored 33 points in the opening two rounds, including a personal haul of 18 points in Coventry’s 73-40 victory over Cornish Pirates at the Nick Newbold Stadium on Saturday.
The versatile Zimbabwean, who has been entrusted with the number 10 jersey, contributed nine conversions as Coventry crossed for 11 tries to secure their first Championship Rugby victory of the campaign.
Houston’s Sables teammate Matt McNab was also on the scoresheet with a try on his Coventry debut.
His latest performance followed a 15-point contribution in Coventry’s narrow 38-35 defeat away to Rotherham in the opening round, when he also scored a try.
Houston’s consistency with the boot has helped him establish an early lead in the Championship scoring standings as Coventry look to build momentum in the new campaign.
The 73-40 win was Coventry’s first of the season after their opening-round setback, with the club producing an attacking display to claim maximum points.
For Houston, the strong start continues his progress in English club rugby while maintaining his presence on the international scene with Zimbabwe.
