    Zimbabwe ladies golf team second at regional tourney

    The Zimbabwe ladies team finished second behind winners South Africa at the Southern Region All-Africa Challenge Trophy which concluded in Windhoek, Namibia on Thursday.

    A total of five countries were taking part in the competition.Veteran golfer Batsirai Tilowakuti captained the team which also comprised teenage prodigy Miriam Masiya and Tracy Humbira.

    Zimbabwe finished the tournament with a gross total of 490 from their two best scores over three days, 40 strokes behind South Africa on 450.

    Hosts Namibia were third on 529 with Eswatini (537) and Lesotho (609) completing the table.

    On the individual standings, Masiya tied for fourth place out of a total of 18 golfers after shooting a gross total of 239 following rounds of 80 81 and 78.

    Tilowakuti carded 85 85 and 81 to settle for fifth place on 251 while Humbira was eighth overall on 259.

    South Africa took the top three places with Olivia Wood emerging the winner with a brilliant 1 – under par 215 score.

    Shannon Butier was 20 strokes further back in second place on 235 while Kamaya Moodlier managed 238 and Odette Buysen was on 239 in a tie fourth place.

    Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) president Olivia Nyamwanza was the head of delegation.
