Zimbabwean sprint star Tapiwanashe Makarawu delivered a historic performance, setting a new African record in the 150m run on a curve with a blistering 14.96 seconds at the Miramar Invitational.

Makarawu finished second in a world-class field behind Jamaican superstar Kishane Thompson, who stormed to victory in a world record time of 14.92 seconds at the Ansin Sports Complex in Florida.

The Zimbabwean’s time eclipses the previous 150m bend African record of 14.99 seconds set by Namibian legend Frankie Fredericks at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.

Remarkably, Makarawu’s run also betters the former world record mark of 14.97 seconds set by British sprint icon Linford Christie in 1994.

Jamaican sprinter Adrian Kerr rounded off the podium in third place with a time of 15.21 seconds.

The record-breaking performance further cements Makarawu’s status as one of Africa’s fastest rising sprint talents on the global stage.
