Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has been signed by Joburg Super Kings for the fifth season of the SA20 after being bought for R500,000 at the competition’s player auction on Wednesday.
Muzarabani was the only player in the bidding when his name came up, allowing the Super Kings to secure his services for the upcoming campaign.
The 30-year-old joins the Johannesburg franchise with extensive experience in franchise T20 cricket, having previously featured in the Indian Premier League, Pakistan Super League and International T20 League.
His arrival adds further pace to a Super Kings squad that already includes a number of experienced international players.
Joburg Super Kings had retained the likes of Jarren Bacher, Matthew de Villiers, Leus du Plooy, Donovan Ferreira, Dian Forrester, Akeal Hosein, Duan Jansen, Rilee Rossouw, Janco Smit, Prenelan Subrayen and James Vince.
The franchise had also completed pre-signings of West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder and England’s Jamie Overton, who was signed as a wildcard.
At the auction, the Super Kings also secured former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis for R2.7 million, Jason Rowles for R2.9 million, Dayyaan Galiem for R375,000, Kieron Pollard for R1.5 million and Andries Gous for R1 million.
Muzarabani will not be the only Zimbabwean in the competition, with all-rounder Sikandar Raza retained by Paarl Royals for the new season.
The fifth SA20 season is scheduled to begin on 17 January 2027, with the opening match at St George’s Park in Gqeberha featuring a rematch of the 2026 final between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Paarl Royals.
The final will be played in Cape Town on 21 February.
For Muzarabani, the move provides another opportunity to compete in one of the leading domestic T20 competitions and add to his growing franchise cricket experience.
