Zimbabwe goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has admitted his disappointment over the Warriors’ early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations, but insists there are valuable lessons to be taken from their return to the continental stage.

Zimbabwe finished bottom of Group B after defeats to Egypt and Bafana Bafana, along with a draw against Angola.

Despite the outcome, Chipezeze said the squad will look to build on the experience as they shift focus towards future tournaments.

“It’s difficult and painful for us. We wanted to be the team that made history by qualifying for the next round, but we’ll take the positives out of this tournament, because at the end of the day, many more AFCON’s are still to come.”

Zimbabwe were perhaps also let down by the fact that coach Mario Marinica was appointed only three weeks before the AFCON.

Chipezeze says they still put in a decent shift. “This is something we need to build on, and maybe with a bit of a luck we could’ve jumped over this hurdle but it wasn’t meant to be.”
