Zimbabwean Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) star Welterweight Themba Gorimbo’s four-match winning streak in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was brought to a screeching halt on Saturday after a devastating first-round loss to Brazilian fighter Vincent Luque at UFC 310 in Las Vegas.

It took mere seconds for UFC welterweight mainstay Vicente Luque to choke replacement opponent Gorimbo to sleep on the UFC 310 prelims.

Luque smothered Gorimbo in an anaconda choke, forcing Gorimbo to go unconscious before having the chance to tap to the submission.

It was a disappointing setback for Gorimbo after filling in for the UFC fan favorite Diaz at UFC 310.

Diaz was scratched from his UFC 310 booking against Luque due to undisclosed reasons, amidst concerning behavior in a now-viral video clip.

Commenting on the loss on his Facebook page, Gorimbo said, “Life has ups and downs. Wasn’t meant to be a straight path to my goal. I’ve not made it yet to my goal, but I am proud but not satisfied with what I’ve accomplished so far.”

He added, “From where I come from, to just fight here in the UFC is a big accomplishment, even though what I want is to become a champion.
It’s a painful path, and I guess my story is not supposed to be a straight walk in the park. I am gutted now but excited for the future. I rolled the dice and didn’t pay off this time. I guess it’s the way life works sometimes. I will dust myself off and make my comeback.”
