AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane believes Zimbabwean forward Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has the potential to reach the heights achieved by some of the country’s greatest footballers, including Warriors legend Knowledge Musona.

The 23-year-old has made an impressive start to the season, directly contributing to six of AmaZulu’s seven goals, with four goals and two assists in their opening matches.

Ngwenya has scored against Stellenbosch, Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates before adding another goal and an assist in AmaZulu’s 2-0 victory over Siwelele.

His early-season form has impressed Zwane, who says he is determined to help the Zimbabwean fulfil his potential.

“Thando is still young, but I want him to reach the level of the Musonas,” Zwane said after the victory over Siwelele.
“I am his mentor and coach, and I will push him to reach that level.”

Zwane believes Ngwenya can eventually become one of the leading Zimbabwean players of his generation and has challenged him to emulate the careers of Musona, Khama Billiat and Peter Ndlovu.

“When he returns to Zimbabwe, I want him to eventually be regarded in the same way as the Musonas, Khama Billiat and Peter Ndlovu because he has the potential to reach that level.”

Ngwenya’s current form has made him one of the standout performers in the early stages of the season, with his direct involvement in six of AmaZulu’s seven goals highlighting his growing influence in the side.

For a player still only 23, Zwane’s challenge represents both recognition of Ngwenya’s progress and a significant expectation for what could lie ahead in his career.

The forward will now look to maintain that momentum as AmaZulu continue their campaign, with his form also strengthening the case for greater involvement at international level with Zimbabwe.
