Michael Wallace poses with the winner's trophy after winning the Mawegu Amateur Championship at Kadoma Golf Club on Sunday

The 2022 season keeps on getting better for golf starlet Michael Wallace after he captured his second win of the season with a commanding 10 shot victory at the Mashonaland West Golf Union (Mawegu) Amateur Championship at Kadoma Golf Club on Sunday.

Wallace has been in good form on the local circuit where he won the season-opening Dugmore Trophy at Bulawayo Golf Club in January by seven shots.

He has also done very well against higher-ranked opponents in neighbouring South Africa, where he recently claimed an impressive eight place finish at the Cape Province Open Championship early this month.

After the recent success at home and in South Africa, Wallace was the favourite heading into the Mawegu Amateur Golf Tournament.

And the Royal Harare Golf Club rising star lived up to his billing after carding scores of 74, 74 and 77 for a 54-hole gross total of seven over par 225.

Wallace finished 10 shots clear of the Julius Robinson Trophy winner Munashe Ndaruza, who carded rounds of 76, 77 and 82 for a gross total of 235 while L Dhaka was a further two shots back in third position.

The du of Clifford Sibanda (77, 83 and 78) and Clive Muchenje (77, 82 and 79) tied for fourth position on 238 while there was a two-way tie for sixth position between Innocent Mukumba (80, 78 and 82) and Valentine Murapa (80, 80, and 80) on 240.

Chapman Golf Club junior golfer Tariro November finished in solo eighth position on a total of 241 after carding rounds of 78, 85 and 76.

The Mawegu Amateur Golf Championship, which is one of the leading events on the Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) calendar, attracted a big field made up of some of the country’s leading locally-based amateur golfers.
