Injury denies Kadewere a dance with his idol, Benzema

Zimbabwe international striker Tino Kadewere misses Mallorca’s clash against Real Madrid after tearing his quadriceps femoris muscle on the right leg.

The injury denies him a much-anticipated opportunity to face his idol Karim Benzema, with the debut for his new team ultimately delayed.

Work permit issues were the first stumbling block for the 26-year-old, and as a result, he missed two games played against Vallecas and Girona.

However, with his work permit secured, this injury development will probably see him sidelined for several weeks.

“Tino Kadewere has suffered an injury to the quadriceps of his right leg during a first-team training session.

“Our medical team is working with Olympique Lyon to determine whether the forward will require surgery or not,” RCD Mallorca said in a brief statement on their Facebook page.

Kadewere joined the La Liga club a fortnight ago on loan from French giants Lyon for the rest of the current season, though with an option to switch permanently.

The former Harare City forward became the first Zimbabwean in history to sign for a La Liga club.

But the injury has temporarily halted his take-off in the highly rated La Liga.

Nevertheless, Kadewere hopes to make an impact at the club when he recovers.

So much is expected from the Zimbabwean, whose departure from Lyon was mainly driven by the need to get more game time.

In France, he had been reduced to a benchwarmer, with the Lyon coach preferring Karl Toko Ekambi and former Arsenal gunslinger Alexandre Lacazette ahead of him.

In two seasons at Lyon, the lanky forward played 48 league games and scored 11 goals, a rather below-par contribution for a player that was signed soon after winning the golden boot in the French Ligue 2.

He scored 20 goals in 24 matches for Le Havre, which secured him the lucrative move to the Ligue 1 club, Lyon.
