Jefferies joins NorthWest AMR ahead of FIA World Endurance Championship opener

Zimbabwe’s Axcil Jefferies has been confirmed as the final driver in NorthWest AMR’s lineup for the FIA World Endurance Championship season ahead of the season opener at the Sebring International Raceway, in Florida, USA on Friday.

The 28-year-old professional motor racing driver, who tested the Canada-based team’s Aston Martin Vantage GTE alongside Thomas Merrill in last weekend’s Prologue pre-season test at Sebring International Raceway.

He will with team owner Dalla Lana from Canada and the Danish professional racing driver, Nicki Thiim in the LMGTE AM Class.

Jefferies is a seasoned competitor having previously competed in high profile competitions such as  the Formula BMW Pacific Series (2009-2010), FIA Formula Two Championship (2012), Indy Lights and the  Lamborghini Super Trofeo (2017).

The Zimbabwean also boasts of experience in the GT World Challenge and other series.

It will mark the Jefferies’ first full campaign in the FIA World Endurance Championship after making his series debut in a Porsche 911 RSR-19 with Frikadelli Racing in 2021.

He went on to test the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R in last year’s Bahrain Rookie Test, although that seat went to Argentinian Nico Varrone.

“I am honored and proud to announce that I will be racing with NorthWest AMR in the World Endurance Championship aboard the Aston Martin GTE together with Paul Dalla Lana and Nicki Thiim. I still can’t believe I will be doing Le Mans this year,” said Jefferies.

Jefferies’ move will see him competing in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, the prestigious endurance-focused sports car race held annually near the town of Le Mans, France.  It is the world’s oldest active endurance racing event.
