Leicester – Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has been urged to include young winger Tawanda Maswanhise in his first team squad.

The 19-year-old winger has scored in each of the six under-21 games so far this season, with the winger’s performances catching the eye of supporters and scouts alike.

City are currently lacking wingers in the first team squad, with Harvey Barnes the only out-and-out wide man, leading for calls to bring Maswanhise up from the development squad.

Ayoze Perez and Dennis Praet have played wide right, while Marc Albrighton is a natural winger but has often been deployed at full-back and even central midfield. Maswanhise is one of several bright young talents coming through and supporters are quickly losing patience that he is not being rewarded.

“Get him in the first team setup,” one fan pleaded. “PLAY HIM Saturday. We need young and hungry players,” another added.

“Needs to be in the first team,” a third demanded, while another said: “First team has no wingers and Brendan not even putting him on the bench. Try something, Brendan!”

Another supporter said Maswanhise would “be better than a lot of them in our first team squad.” A fellow fan was not quite so sure though, saying: “Not the right environment for him at the moment. He’s developing well.”

Maswanhise was last week recognised for his explosive start to the season after nominated in the premier league two’s player of the month for August.

The Zimbabwean teen was been in impressive form for the Foxes development side, scoring in all four PL2 fixtures during the month.

Maswanhise has found the net in games against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, West Ham United and Blackburn Rovers.

He has now scored in six consecutive matches for Leicester City Under-21s in all competitions so far this season.

He is nominated along eight other players for the award, with the winner to be announced via the Premier League’s website and PL Youth Twitter page.
