Zimbabwean Olympian Tapiwanashe “Carlie” Makarawu has signed an NIL deal with ON Running as the Swiss sportswear brand expands its investment into the sprints.
A NIL deal, or Name, Image, and Likeness deal, is a contract that allows college athletes to profit from their personal brand and identity.
NIL deals can include endorsements, sponsorships, and other opportunities.
The 24-year-old sprint sensation, who is on an athletic scholarship at University of Kentucky, is coming off a memorable debut appearance at the Olympic Games and reached the 200m final, where he finished sixth.
He boasts personal bests of 10.04 for 100m and 19.93 for 200m. He is the Zimbabwe national record holder in the 200m.
Prior to arriving in Lexington, he was a seven-time NJCAA champion and also holds the NJCAA 200m record while at New Mexico Junior College.
