Zimbabwe national team striker Tawanda Maswanhise believes his best form is still ahead after being named Motherwell FC’s Player of the Month for January 2026 in Scotland.

The Warriors forward received the G4 Claims Player of the Month accolade after outstanding performances in the William Hill Scottish Premiership, earning the most votes from fans ahead of teammates Elijah Just, Lukas Fadinger and Paul McGinn.

In a statement, the club praised his impact: “The forward’s excellent displays during the month make him your player of the month. Scoring six goals in five matches, the Zimbabwe international moved top of the goalscoring charts in the Scottish Premiership. Well done, Tawanda.”

It is his second such award of the 2025/26 season, having also won the honour in November 2025. Midfielder Elliot Watt claimed the December award.

Speaking to the club’s media, the 26-year-old thanked supporters for the recognition.

“Thank you for the Player of the Month Award. It is the first one of the New Year. Hopefully, there are many more to come. I have to keep the fire burning. Momentum in the team and morale are very high. The atmosphere is improving week by week, and hopefully I can keep on the ascendancy,” he said.

Maswanhise’s rich vein of form has attracted interest from clubs including Blackburn Rovers in England and Belgian side Anderlecht.

He also made a mark at the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he scored and provided an assist in his first start against South Africa, although the Warriors bowed out after a 3-2 defeat.

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou will be counting on the Zimbabwean forward again when the club faces title challengers Rangers.

Motherwell currently sit fourth in the standings, 11 points behind Rangers and 12 adrift of leaders Hearts.
