Ngarava lands maiden overseas T20 gig with Lanka Premier League’s Galle Titans


Left-arm seamer Richard Ngarava has been rewarded for his brilliant performances for Zimbabwe after being signed by the GalleTitans ahead of the fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) starting on Sunday.

Ngarava, who has enjoyed a consistent run of form with Zimbabwe over the last couple of years, was of the last minute addition to the Galle Titans’ roster along with Australian Ben Cutting.

Sri Lankan star Lahiru Kumara, who was ruled out for the early stages of the tournament with injury, has been replaced with Milan Rathnayake.

Ngarava was recently named in ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023 Team of the Tournament after taking 14 wickets at an impressive average of 19.28.

During the qualifiers, the 25-year-old fast bowler also matched Henry Olonga’s long standing record of having claimed 14 wickets in consecitive innings for Zimbabwe in One Day Internationals.

The legendary Olonga achieved the feat between 1999 and 2000 but Ngarava, whose run started last year could break the record of he manages to claim atleast a wicket in Zimbabwe’s next ODI match.

The stint in Sri Lanka will be Ngarava’s first opportunity to showcase his talent in overseas franchise T20 cricket, as his profile in the game continues to grow.

Ngarava was recently signed by the UK-based Stem Sports, the same management agency which represents Zimbabwe star Sikandar Raza in recognition of his exceptional performances while leading the Chevrons’ bowling attack.

Since making his debut for the Chevrons in an ODI against Afghanistan in February, 2017 Ngarava has been one of the most consistent perfomers in the team.

He has represented Zimbabwe in four Tests, 39 ODIs and 34 T20i matches.
