Reading boss Ruben Selles is hoping to sign Tivonge Rushesha after he impressed during a month long trial stint at former Premier League side.

The 21-year-old Zimbabwe-born versatile midfielder has featured on trial for the club for over a month and played in all of the friendly matches during pre-season.

Formerly of Swansea City, the former Wales Under-18 youngster made his first-team debut in 2019 during a 6-0 win in the Carabao Cup.

Despite both parties being keen on a move, the club are unable to register any more players for the EFL until the HMRC debt issue is resolved.

This same issue is currently preventing Charlie Savage from making a competitive debut for the club.

Speaking after a 4-0 defeat to the Swans on Satuday, Selles laid his cards on the table regarding a deal.

“Absolutely. Tivonge has done a great job since he came in pre-season so we are just looking to formally add him to the squad,” he admitted. “I think he is still a player who should be between our squad and Under-23 side but I think he has a lot of football in his legs. I know he has a brain to understand situations so I think he can be a really good player for Reading. One thing at a time. When we register him he can play for us. Maybe at the beginning of the season he will have more chances for a club like us because we lack some players, but we have a player there who could be important to us.”

The Wales youth international, who was born in Zimbabwe, rose up through the academy ranks of the Swansea and was a regular for the Welsh outfit at their various youth levels, most recently their Under-21’s side.

He didn’t make a senior league appearance for the Championship club though and they made the difficult decision to cut ties with him at the end of June when his contract expired after two serious injuries

Rushesha has since been weighing up his options and has been keeping fit by playing for Reading.

It appears he has done enough to warrant a permanent switch and the club are apparently interested in securing him for good with the new season five days away now.
