Zimbabwe international Andy Rinomhota put on yet another splendid individual performance for Cardiff City as they won their first Championship game in 10 attempts with a 2-1 victory against Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road.
The Bluebirds were winless in nine heading into this one and Omer Riza was coming under increased pressure.
But two first-half goals from City’s top scorer Callum Robinson ensured the Bluebirds broke their winless streak and earned their first three points away from home since April.
Rinomhota was impressive at right-back, where he was tasked with keeping the dangerous Georgian international Giorgi Chakvetadze quiet and did incredibly well for the most part.
The 27-year-old England-born Zimbabwean star has fought his way back into the starting line up at Cardiff City after being initially frozen out at the start of the season.
Once regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Championship at Reading, Rinomhota initially failed to live up to his billing at Cardiff but is now getting back to his best form despite being deployed at right back.
Rinomhota’s contract at Cardiff is set to expire in June 2025.
Born in Leeds, Rinomhota worked his way up through the Reading academy and became a pivotal figure in the side before he departed to join Cardiff City on a free transfer in June 2022.
The midfielder made his Reading debut in August 2017 in the EFL Cup before breaking into the first-team the following season.
Rinomhota impressed with his commanding and energetic displays in the middle and played 26 times in the 2018/19 campaign.
He went on to become a vitally important player in Reading’s midfield and made a total of 139 first-team appearances before his contract expired last summer.
Rinomhota opted to reject Reading’s offer of a new deal and joined Cardiff.
Rinomhota managed to make 39 Championship appearances for Cardiff in his debut season, but played just three appealing in his second season before being sent on loan to Rotherham where he made 16 appearances.
