London – Imagine swimming a total of 244.8 miles, cycling 11,424 and running 2,672.4 miles.

That’s what Zimbabwean athlete and adventurer Sean Conway has just done, breaking the record for the most back-t0-back full distance Ironman triathlons.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Sean Conway now lives in Wales, where he started this mammoth challenge.

An average day along the way to the successful record attempt saw see him swim his 2.4 miles in the Mold Leisure Centre pool, followed by a 112 mile bike ride to the Blue Bridge Deeside and then a 26.2 mile marathon back to Mold Leisure Centre.

“I can’t begin to explain the emotions I am feeling having completed 102 days of consecutive full distance triathlons,” he said last night.

“Months of strict and gruelling training has led me to this moment, and I could not be prouder of what I have achieved today.”

He later wrote on his Instagram that “this has been by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It’ll be hard to top this.”

Along the journey he has inspired many, documenting his efforts on his Instagram, and also raised an impressive £80,000 and counting for True Venture, a Welsh charity that exists to inspire and support children and young athletes through sport, so they can connect with and reach their potential.

As distance runners can imagine, fuelling an epic endurance feat like this was a difficult task, Conway confirmed.

“Keeping my energy levels up and giving my body enough calories and nutrients, not only to perform each day but to keep myself healthy and well enough to complete this world record was no mean feat! I was consuming 7,000 – 8,000 calories a day, which is just not possible through food alone so I used Optimum Nutrition products to supplement my intake.”

Conway has certainly earned some serious recovery time after his efforts.

“It’s safe to say I am looking forward to taking some much-needed rest’ he confirmed, ‘But watch this space for my next adventure!”
