Unheralded Binzi wins FUZ Player of the Month award 


Premier Soccer League top goal scorer  Fortune Binzi has been rewarded for his fine start to the season after being named the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ)’s Player of the Month for April.

The 24-year-old Manica Diamonds marksman is having a brilliant start of the season after scoring six goals in his team’s first eight league games.

Binzi was named the winner of the of the first monthly award of the season.

The FUZ monthly awards are voted by fellow Premier Soccer League players.

Binzi was presented with his award by the Fuz secretary general Thomas Sweswe on Friday ahead of his team’s Premiership clash against Chicken Inn at Gibbo Stadium on Saturday.

The Manica Diamonds star beat Highlanders goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, Hwange striker Brighton Makopa, Dynamos’ defensive midfielder Tanaka Shandirwa and Bulawayo Chiefs’ attacking midfielder Mthokozisi Msebe to the award.

Binzi became the first player in the domestic Premiership to score a hattrick when his side beat Black Rhinos 4-0 at Gibbo Stadium on April 29.

The striker’s good form has been the driving force behind Manica Diamonds, who are third on the table with 12 points from eight games.

Manica Diamonds have been performing beyond expectations despite being forced to play their home matches at Gibbo Stadium in Chiredzi due to the poor state of Sakubva and Vengere stadiums.
