US-based Zimbabwean amateur golfer Margret Nyamukondiwa delivered a stellar performance to win the 2026 Southern Colorado Women’s Open after a nail-biting playoff victory over Sweden’s Lisa Ekberg.

The tournament, held at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, saw Nyamukondiwa rise to the occasion under pressure, edging out home favourite Ekberg on the very first playoff hole.

The two golfers had finished deadlocked at the top of the leaderboard after 36 holes on one-under-par 143, forcing a dramatic sudden-death playoff to determine the winner.

Nyamukondiwa, a senior at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), showcased her growing reputation as one of the leading players on the university’s golf team. Her victory over Ekberg, who represents Colorado State University, underlines her ability to compete at a high level on the American collegiate circuit.

Originally from Harare, Nyamukondiwa has built an impressive golfing résumé. She played a key role in helping TAMIU achieve its best-ever finish at the Lone Star Conference Championship in 2025 and has continued her strong form into the 2025–2026 season.

Before transferring to TAMIU, she honed her game at Western Texas Junior College in Snyder, where she enjoyed a successful stint under coach Bronc Fleming. During her time there, she won three junior college tournaments and finished in the top 10 in eight of the 10 events she competed in.

Nyamukondiwa’s journey began in Zimbabwe at The Heritage School, where she graduated in 2021. A talented multi-sport athlete, she competed in both golf and cross country while also achieving national recognition on the course.

She represented Zimbabwe at junior level and claimed the prestigious Zimbabwe Ladies Open title — the standout achievement of her early career.

This latest triumph in Colorado further cements Nyamukondiwa’s status as one of Zimbabwe’s brightest golfing prospects on the international stage.
