Zimbabwe international midfielder Andy Rinomhota is back where it all began — returning to Reading FC on a deal until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old, who spent seven years at the club between 2015 and 2022, is reuniting with the Royals after a three-year spell away that saw him feature for Cardiff City and Rotherham United.
Rinomhota made 139 appearances and scored four goals in his first stint with Reading, quickly becoming a fan favourite thanks to his tireless work rate and versatility.
Capable of operating as a box-to-box midfielder or filling in at full-back, he was named Reading’s Player of the Season in 2018/19 after a standout campaign that showcased his energy and consistency.

After leaving Reading in 2022, Rinomhota joined Cardiff City, where he made 82 appearances and was voted Players’ Player of the Season for 2024/25. He also spent time on loan at Rotherham United during the 2023/24 season — where he played under current Reading boss Leam Richardson.
An elated Richardson was full of praise for his new signing, highlighting Rinomhota’s professionalism and hunger to win.
“I’ve worked with Andy before and know exactly what he’ll bring to the squad — energy, honesty and a real desire to win. He’s a great professional who knows this club and what it means to represent Reading. I’m delighted to have him back and I’m sure the fans will be too.”

After impressing during a trial period at Bearwood Park, Rinomhota, who was also being linker with a move to Sheffield Wednesday has officially put pen to paper and could make his second Reading debut when the Royals host his former club Rotherham United on November 22.
Nicknamed ‘Rino’ by fans, the dynamic midfielder will wear the number 18 shirt on his return. His comeback is being celebrated by both Reading supporters and Zimbabwean football fans, who continue to follow the midfielder’s journey in English football.
Rinomhota, who represents Zimbabwe at international level, brings not only experience and leadership but also a deep connection to the Reading faithful. His return is seen as a major boost to the Royals’ League One campaign as they look to build momentum under Richardson.
