Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly keen on signing Zimbabwe international Andy Rinomhota, following his departure from Cardiff City, according to reports from The Sheffield Star.

The 27-year-old midfielder is currently a free agent and has emerged as a potential target for the club’s new manager Henrik Pedersen as they look to reinforce their midfield options ahead of the January transfer window.

Born in Leeds to a Zimbabwean father, Rinomhota began his professional career with Reading, where he made over 120 Championship appearances.

He later joined Cardiff City in 2022 and spent part of the 2023/24 season on loan at Rotherham United, earning plaudits for his energy and versatility despite the Millers’ relegation.

Rinomhota is known for his tireless work rate, defensive discipline, and ability to drive play from midfield — qualities that could be invaluable to a Wednesday side struggling to find consistency this season.

With Sheffield Wednesday operating under tight financial constraints, the club are expected to focus on free agents and short-term deals during the upcoming window.

Rinomhota’s availability and proven Championship experience make him an ideal candidate for the Owls, who currently sit near the foot of the table.

However, sources suggest that the move is not yet advanced, and Wednesday may face competition from other clubs tracking the Zimbabwean midfielder.
