Zimbabwean sprint stars Makanakaishe Charamba and Tapiwanashe Makarawu will line up against some of the world’s fastest men when they compete in the men’s 200m at the prestigious Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, on July 4.

The Zimbabwean pair headline a stacked field that includes reigning Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana, Dominican Republic star Alexander Ogando, Americans Courtney Lindsey and Tate Taylor, as well as Jamaicans Adrian Kerr and Bryan Levell.

Fresh from equalling his personal best of 19.88 seconds to finish second at the Doha Diamond League, Charamba will be aiming to continue his impressive form as he builds towards next year’s World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

Makarawu, meanwhile, will also be looking to make his mark in one of the strongest 200m fields assembled this season after enjoying an encouraging campaign on the American circuit.

The Prefontaine Classic, part of the Wanda Diamond League series, is regarded as one of the world’s premier athletics meetings and regularly attracts Olympic and world champions.

For Zimbabwe’s two rising sprint stars, Saturday’s race presents another valuable opportunity to test themselves against elite opposition as they continue their rapid rise on the international stage.
