Top Zimbabwean female boxer Kudakwashe Chiwandire is all set to finally defend her WBC bantamweight interim title against Zulina Munoz in Harare on Friday after her Mexican opponent arrived in the country on Sunday ahead of the high-profile bout.
The historic bout, which was officially back in May was initially scheduled for August 20.
It was postponed several times due to lack of funding before the Zimbabwe government through the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Recreation agreed to bankroll the fight which will be staged at the Harare International Conference Centre on Friday night.
The Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (ZNBWCB) which played an important role in lobbying for government support towards the fight said all is now set for Friday’s festivities.
“A warm welcome to Zimbabwe! Zulina “La Loba” Muñoz and her Coach touched down in Zimbabwe today for the WBC interim Super-bantam Weight title fight against Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire scheduled for Friday October 14 2022. The countdown is on!!!,” ZNBWCB said on social media on Sunday.
Chiwandire, who was in danger of being stripped of her title without throwing a single punch if her promoters had failed to host Friday’s encounter will be hoping to make the most of the opportunity to defend her title on home soil.
The 26-year-old Zimbabwean boxing star clinched the title in February after defeating Zambia’s Catherine Phiri.

Thirty-six-year-old Munoz is the more experienced of the two, with 58 professional fights, and an impressive 52 wins, of which 30 were knockouts while she also had four losses and two draws.
Chiwandire, on the other hand, has eight fights, winning five, losing and managing one draw.
The winner of Friday’s high stakes fight will be able to challenge for the WBC super bantamweight gold, which is in the hands of Yamileth Mercado, also of Mexico.
