David Amm clinches maiden pro win at Tongaat Hulett Lowveld Pro-Am Championship

Zimbabwean golfer David Amm claimed his maiden win since recently turning professional after claiming a one shot victory at the Lowveld Pro-Am Championship in Chiredzi on Sunday.

The high profile Lowveld Pro-Am which was generously sponsored by Tongaat Hulett, was played over three days at the scenic Hippo Valley and Triangle Golf Clubs, drawing a competitive field of 58 participants.

Amm, who recently decided to join the professional ranks after a very successful amateur career both locally and abroad carded rounds of 69, 65 and 69 to finish on an impressive 54-hole total of 13-under-par 203.

The 24-year-old rising star finished a shot clear of his former Chapman Golf Club mate Pride Sembo, to claim the coveted US$10,000 winner’s cheque.

The championship kicked off with Amm setting a solid foundation, scoring three-under-par in the opening round.

His prowess on the course was further highlighted in the second round, where he delivered an extraordinary seven-under-par 65, thanks to two eagles and three birdies.

Despite the pressure, Amm maintained his composure in the final round, shooting another three-under-par 69 to clinch the title, narrowly edging out Pride Sembo by a single shot.

Sembo’s commendable performance across the tournament underscored the high level of competition, making Amm’s victory all the more significant.

The tournament also attracted entries from beyond the country’s border with promising Zambian golfer Sydney Wemba finishing in third position on six-under-par.

Seasoned Zimbabwean professional golfer TC Charamba was a further shot behind in fourth while Visitor Mapwanya settled for fifth position on four-under par.p

The tournament’s success was made possible through the generous support of Tongaat Hulett, which generously contributed a substantial US$60,000 sponsorship for the event, making it the second biggest local event after the Zimbabwe Open Championship.

Dahlia Garwe, the company’s Corporate and Industrial Affairs Executive, expressed immense satisfaction with the event’s outcome, praising the collaborative efforts of all sponsors and the pivotal role of the Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) in orchestrating such a successful championship.

The ZGA also extended its gratitude towards Tongaat Huletts and other sponsors, acknowledging their critical contribution to the growth and development of golf in Zimbabwe.
