Zimbabwe international Jordan Zemura has been backed to make an immediate impact at Watford after the Championship club said his experience in England and Italy would strengthen their promotion push.
The 26-year-old left-back has joined the Hornets on a season-long loan from Serie A side Udinese, returning to English football after three seasons in Italy.
Watford’s group technical director Gian Luca Nani believes Zemura arrives as a more complete player following his spell in Serie A.
“Zemura is a player with key experience in the Championship with Bournemouth,” Nani told the club’s website.
“He is a full-back of excellent technique and quality, capable of contributing very effectively to the attacking phase. His experience in Serie A has further improved him defensively.
“He brings experience, quality and a winning mentality. We are really happy to have him at Watford.”
The move sees Zemura return to the Championship, where he helped Bournemouth secure promotion to the Premier League in the 2021-22 season before making 19 top-flight appearances.
He leaves Udinese after featuring 67 times across three seasons and becomes the fifth player to join Watford from the Italian club this summer as the Hornets continue to utilise the Pozzo family’s multi-club network.
For Zimbabwe, the switch offers Zemura the prospect of regular football in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues after spending the past three years in Serie A.
The Warriors defender is expected to compete with Marc Bola for the left-back position but also offers versatility, with the ability to operate further forward on the left flank.
