Italian company Alpinestar backs Muzinda’s motocross dream

Motocross rising star Tanya Muzinda has earned herself a sponsorship deal with global clothing and protective gear manufacturer Alpinestar who are set to dress her for the upcoming season.

The giant motorsport gear manufacturer which was founded in 1963 in Italy provides gear for some of the best athletes in motorsport including six-time MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez and Rally Raid athlete, multiple ISDE gold medallist and the 2021 Dakar winner Kevin Benavides among others.

The 17-year-old US-based athlete who dreams of becoming the first world champion from Zimbabwe was the points leader and winner of the 2021 Bartow National Motocross Championship Series in the 125cc mixed boys 2 stroke class.

It was her first motocross full season Championship win outside Zimbabwe.

She took to social media on Friday to announce the latest development without giving much detail.

“I am happy to announce my gear sponsor for this season 2022-23 is Alpinestars. Being part of this global brand’s family is a great honour.

“Am flying out to Sacramento, California for my season machine/bike testing and practice this weekend.

“Can’t wait to get back on the bike again!!,” she said.

Muzinda who began racing at the age of five was on BBC’s list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for the year 2021.

The 100 included women in various areas including Culture and Education, Science and Health, Entertainment and Sport, Politics and Activism, and women from Afghanistan.

Muzinda engages in charitable work, paying tuition for around 100 children from less privileged backgrounds to attend school in Harare.
