Lady Chevrons continue winning run with dominant win over Papua New Guinea

A third wicket 100-run partnership between Zimbabwe captain Mary-Anne Musonda and Modester Mupachikwa ensured that the Lady Chevrons continued with their winning streak with a dominant eight-wicket victory in the first of a three-match T20 series against visiting Papua New Guinea at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.

After clinching a convincing series whitewash in the One Day International (ODI) series, the Lady Chevrons were aiming to continue their dominance in the T20 series ahead of the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in the UAE.

In the end it was another accomplished display for Zimbabwe as they maintained their perfect run of form.

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe opted to bowl first before Papua New Guinea to 110-4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Seasoned seamer Josephine Nkomo, who has been in superb form continued her remarkable run by claiming three wickets for just 19 runs in her three overs.

Chasing a modest 111 runs for victory in 20 overs,Zimbabwe endured an early scare in their run chase following the dismissal of Kelis Ndhlovu from the third ball of the innings with just four runs on the board before the Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano followed her to the pavilion in the second over.

Zimbabwe however rallied back to wrestle back control of the match through an entertaining partnership between the experienced pair of Musonda and Mupachikwa.

The duo combined well to dominate the Papua New Guinea bowlers in their match winning unbroken partnership of 101 runs off 96 balls to hand Zimbabwe a comfortable victory.

Musonda was particularly aggressive as she raced to an unbeaten 54 runs off 51 balls while Mupachikwa finished with 45 off as many deliveries.

Musonda was named the Player of the Match.
