Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi has been appointed the first vice-captain at French top flight outfit Stade de Reims as his influence continues to grow at the club.

Munetsi is highly regarded at Reims, a club he has served with loyalty and distinction since the summer of 2019, when he joined them from South African side Orlando Pirates.

The 28-year-old industrious midfielder will deputise Teddy Teuma, who was named the new club captain by Reims’ new head coach Slovenian Luka Elsner.

In a statement on their official website Reims said Munetsi had been awarded the new leadership role in recognition of his role in the integration of young players into the first team.

“Marshall Munetsi, recognized for his key role in the integration of young people and the cohesion of the group, will continue to occupy a central place in the SDR locker room,” Reims said on Munetsi.

The Zimbabwe star is one of the three vice-captains alongside Emmanuel Agbadou and Yehvann Diouf.

As the first vice-captain Minetsi will wear the armband in Reims’ Ligue 1 season opener against Lille on Saturday as Teuma is suspended for the game.

Munetsi is also the vice-captain of the Zimbabwe national team but has lately taken over the captaincy duties for the Warriors in the absence of Luton Town midfielder Marvelous Nakamba.
