Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi scored his first goal of the new season as Wolverhampton Wanderers began their Championship campaign with a 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers on Friday.

Munetsi opened the scoring after 17 minutes at Molineux, finishing calmly after Fer Lopez played him through with a superb sliding pass.

The Zimbabwe midfielder broke beyond the Blackburn defence before keeping his composure to beat goalkeeper Balazs Hoth and put Wolves ahead.

Blackburn responded before the half-hour mark when Sean McLoughlin headed home to level the score.

Rovers then completed the turnaround early in the second half, with Aladapo Afolayan finding Andri Gudjohnsen inside the penalty area before the Iceland international finished first time to make it 2-1.

Wolves rescued a point in stoppage time when Raul Jimenez converted from the penalty spot in the 92nd minute on his return to the club.

Munetsi’s goal provided an early highlight for the Zimbabwe international as Wolves began their first season back in the Championship.

Wolves next travel to face Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday, August 22.
