Zimbabwe women’s cricket team captain Mary-Anne Musonda’s profile in international cricket continues to grow.

Barely a few weeks after featuring in the 2023 Fairbreak Invitational in Hong Kong the 31-year-old Lady Chevrons star was on Friday named among the six overseas players who will feature in the women’s 2023 Super Series in Ireland ahead of the first match of the competition on Monday.

The Super Series is the peak domestic women’s cricket league in Ireland. Launched in 2015, it is a competition between the Scorchers, Dragons and Typhoons with the sides competing for the Super 50 Cup (50-over matches) and the Super 20 Trophy (T20 matches).

Musonda will become the first Zimbabwe women’s cricket international to feature in the high-profile competition after being named in the Scorchers squad by Cricket Ireland on Friday.

She is one of only six overseas players who feature in the competition as her profile in international women’s cricket continues to grow.

The other foreign players include her Scorchers teammate New Zealander Polly Inglis, South African Robyn Searle and Georgia Atkinson New Zealand, who are part of the Typhoons.

Australian teenager Jaimie Lee Strang and Bella Armstrong will feature for the Dragons.

Zimbabwean fans around the world will however be closely following Musonda’s progress in what will be her debut appearance in Ireland’s domestic cricket setup

The right-hand batter made her international ODI debut against Ireland in 2021, where she scored an unbeaten 103, as she became only the sixth woman to score a century on her ODI debut.

The feat also made Musonda the first Zimbabwean Women’s cricketer to score an international century.

Musonda recently played for the Tornadoes in the 2023 Fairbreak Invitational which was played at the Kowloon Cricket Club in Hong Kong from April 3 to 16.

The tournament, sanctioned by the global cricket governing body, ICC, was being privately run by Fairbreak Global, a company that aims to promote gender equality.

Musonda is currently part of the Lady Chevrons squad which is on its maiden tour of Thailand and was expected to connect to Ireland soon after the conclusion of their tour on Friday.
