Sprinter Makanakaishe Charamba won the silver medal in the 200m at the Spitzen Leichtathletik in Luzern, Switzerland on Tuesday.
Charamba, who is preparing for the Paris Olympics, clocked a time of 20.42 seconds to finish second in the seven-man field.
The 22-year-old rising Zimbabwean star’s time was well short of his season’s best of 20.00 seconds, which he set at the South-eastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Florida two months ago to book his Olympic ticket.
The qualifying time for 200m in the men’s competition at the Paris Games is 20.16 seconds.
Meanwhile Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards jetted to men’s 200m gold at the Luzern meet in 20.19 seconds while Ugandan Tarsis Gracious Orogot claimed bronze in 20.50s.
Richards, the 2017 World Championship bronze medalist and two-time Commonwealth Games Champion in the 200 meters is set to compete in both the 200 and 400 meters events in Paris, having won gold in the distance at the World Indoor Championships in 2022.
