Top Zimbabwe professional golfer Scott Vincent has qualified for the 2025 edition of the US Open championship after he finished inside the top three at the Final Qualifier held at the Tarao Country Club in Japan on Monday.
Vincent shot rounds of 67 and 67 to finish on 10 – under par 134 , same as the winner of the Qualifier Japanese Yuta Sugiura who carded 68 and 66 in two rounds.
The final slot went to another Japanese golfer Jinichiro Kazuma who finished overall on 9 – under par 135 after signing for 68 and 67.
It was such a huge relief for the Zimbabwean golfer who agonizingly missed out on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour sanctioned event at the Japan Final Qualifier last year after he lost out in the five-for-one playoff at Hino Golf Club, Shiga Prefecture.
The five-for-one playoff saw Taisei Shimizu grab the final ticket ahead of Ryosuke Kinoshita, Naouki Kataoka, Kinsei Hirata and Vincent.
Vincent was eliminated with a bogey on the first playoff hole.
But this time around, the 33 – year – old Zimbabwean made sure he would not need a play off to go through.
This year the US Open will take place from June 12–15, 2025 and the Oakmont Country Club, Pennsylvania.
The Asian Tour took to social media to congratulate Vincent and Kozuma for the US Open qualification.
“Congratulations to Jinichiro Kozuma and Scott Vincent for securing their tickets to U.S. Open Championship after finishing inside top-3 at the Final Qualifier held at the Tarao Country Club in Japan,” they said
The US Open offers the Zimbabwean an opportunity to compete with the best in the world after his relegation from the lucrative LIV Golf League last year.
