Zimbabwe international Tawanda Maswanhise has been rewarded for his outstanding form in the Scottish Premiership after being named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Season.

The 23-year-old forward has emerged as one of the most dangerous attackers in Scotland this season, playing a leading role for Motherwell and attracting growing attention from football fans in Zimbabwe and the UK diaspora.

Maswanhise’s impressive performances have helped revive Motherwell’s fortunes, with the club enjoying one of its strongest campaigns in recent years.

Motherwell have five players in the PFA Scotland Team of the Season, underlining the club’s remarkable progress during the 2025/26 campaign.

Maswanhise is joined by goalkeeper Calum Ward, captain Paul McGinn, midfielder Elliot Watt and winger Elijah Just in the prestigious league XI.

This is the first time since the 2012/13 season that the Steelmen has have more than one player selected in the PFA Team of the Season.

“For the first time since 2012/13, Motherwell have more than one player in the PFA Team of the Season. Calum Ward, Paul McGinn, Elliot Watt, Elijah Just and Tawanda Maswanhise have all been voted by their fellow pros as part of the best 11 players in the William Hill Premiership this season,” the club said.

The Zimbabwe Warriors star has taken his game to another level this season.

Maswanhise has scored 17 goals in 30 Scottish Premiership matches and is firmly in contention for the Golden Boot alongside Lawrence Shankland and Benjamin Nygren.

Across all competitions, he has scored 22 goals, becoming one of the few Motherwell players to reach the 20-goal mark in a single season.

His achievements place him alongside club legends Michael Higdon and Willie Pettigrew among Motherwell’s top goalscorers.

Maswanhise’s pace, strength and composure in front of goal have made him one of the standout Zimbabwean footballers playing abroad this season.

The forward is also in line for a major awards sweep at Motherwell’s end-of-season ceremony.

Maswanhise has been nominated for Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Season.

His Goal of the Season nominations came from spectacular strikes against Morton and Kilmarnock, further highlighting his ability to deliver match-winning moments.

While Motherwell’s success this season has been built on a strong team core, Maswanhise has become the club’s biggest star.

Maswanhise’s form has not gone unnoticed.

The Zimbabwean attacker was reportedly linked with Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers during the January transfer window.

With the summer transfer window approaching, it remains to be seen whether Motherwell will be able to keep hold of one of the Scottish Premiership’s most in-form players.

For Zimbabwean football fans at home and around the world, Maswanhise’s rise continues to be a major source of pride.
