Zimbabwe’s Miriam Masiya capped a memorable week with a tied-eighth finish at the prestigious Africa Amateur Women’s Invitational at Royal Johannesburg.

The 16-year-old carded consistent rounds of 76, 78, and 78 to finish on 16-over-par 232, securing a credible top-10 place in the continent’s premier women’s amateur golf tournament.

Lisa Coetzer

South Africa’s Lisa Coetzer won the event with a two-shot victory over compatriot Lourenda Steyn.

Coetzer, who finished third last year, led after the opening two rounds and sealed victory on the final day with a level-par total of 216, completing a wire-to-wire triumph.

Her win earns her starts in The Women’s Amateur Championship, Final Qualifying for the AIG Women’s Open, the Joburg Ladies Open, the Investec South African Women’s Open, and the Waterfall City Tournament of Champions powered by Attacq.

“Winning means the world,” Coetzer said.

“I’ve been working really hard to win this event because it opens the door to so many tournaments that can give me great exposure for what I want to do in the future. I don’t think it has really sunk in yet, but I’m very happy.”
