Rising cricket star Tawanda Muyeye lived up to his billing as one of the brightest prospects in English cricket after smashing a brilliant maiden double century for Kent in their English County Championship encounter against Worcestershire at New Road on Saturday.
Although Muyeye’s heroic individual effort was in vain after his side slumped to an eight wicket loss on the final day, Muyeye yet again provided a timely reminder of his prodigious talent.
The 23-year-old, who came to global recognition after being named the Wisden World Schools Cricketer of the Year four years ago, dominated proceedings with the bat and played the major role in Kent wiping out a first innings deficit of 276.
After notching a half century in the first innings, Muyeye continued his good form with the bat in the second innings, where he began the penultimate day unbeaten on 80.
The stylish attacking right handed batsman caught the eye with his immaculate stroke making as he surpassed his previous best score of 179 against Northamptonshire at Northampton last summer.
Muyeye’s fine knock came to an end in the final over of the day when he was caught behind off James Hartshorn for 211 from 279 balls with three sixes and 23 fours.
