Zim hockey star Zimuto shines in US

Former Zimbabwe Under-21 hockey player Rumbi Zimuto scored the winning goal for the La Salle University team as they beat the Lehigh Mountain Hawks 2 – 1 to maintain their unbeaten start to the season on Friday Last week.

It was Zimuto’s first goal for the Explorers and it earned her a place among the three nominees for the athlete of the week at the university which is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The other nominees include teammate and goalkeeper Abby Boggs as well as women’s soccer team goalkeeper Michela Auguadro, who eventually won the athlete of the week accolade.

The Explorers’ have had their best ever start to a season in field hockey program with 5-0 record.

Gabrielle LaCroix gave the Explorere the lead against Lehigh Mountain Hawks before Zimuto doubled the lead at the start of the third frame following an assist Malena Balduzzi.

Julia Gatelein got Lehigh Mountain Hawks’s consolation goal with just over seven minutes remaining in regulation.

Zimuto, who is in her first semester at La Salle University, was part of the Zimbabwe team represented the country at the Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup, in Potchefstroom, South Africa in 2021
