Zimbabwe Sables powerhouse Victor Mupunga has made a big breakthrough into the professional ranks of French rugby union after signing a two-year deal with third tier club Union Sportive Bressane.

The 25-year-old (1.81m, 127 kg) loosehead prop heads to Bourg-en-Bresse in Eastern France after three succesful years at Federale 1 side Club Sportif Nuits-Saint-Georges Rugby.

Mupunga initially moved to France to join seventh tier side US Pays De Gex Rugby.

The former Churchill High School student was one of the standout stars in Zimbabwe’s 2024 Rugby Africa Cup triumph.

He attributes his latest move to the hard work he has put in during his stay Club Sportif Nuits-Saint-Georges Rugby and success with the Sables.

“Between the two seasons I had with CS Nuiton and the Africa Cup, I guess the club had their eye on me and took me on for the new project. A testament to prayers answered,” Mupunga said in a statement shared with Zimbabwe Rugby Union.

Mupunga is expected to finish the current season with his Nuits-Saint-Georges side, who will play a playoff match in Gaillac on Sunday, April 27.

Zimbabwean international is expected to play an important role for the Sables, who will be aiming to successfully defend their Rugby Africa Cup title in July which would earn them an automatic ticket for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
