Teenage star Beloved Biza starred for the Zimbabwe Women Select team as they beat visiting English County side Durham Women’s team by 37 runs to claim a 2 – 1 T20 series win at Takashinga Cricket Club on Thursday.
The 16-year-old all-rounder claimed bowling figures of 3 wickets for 14 runs as the hosts restricted Durham’s run chase to 82 for 9 needing 120 runs to win the match.
Kate Ebrahim, wife to former Zimbabwe batter Dion Ebrahim who is the current batting coach for the senior men’s team also retained impressive figures of 3 for 15 with the ball.
Ebrahim also made a notable contribution with the bat with a quick 20 in just 11-balls while Kelis Ndlovu managed 21 from just 14 balls.
Biza’s 23 run knock with the bat was the second best for Zimbabwe after Loreen Tshuma (31) as the team managed to put a 119/6 total in their allotted 20 Overs after Durham won the toss and sent the hosts in to bat first.
It was a 50-run partnership between Tshuma and Biza helped Zimbabwe Select to a decent total.
And deservedly Biza was voted player of the match.After losing the One Day series 2 – 0 after losing the first match by 61 runs and 27 runs by DLS method, the Zimbabwe Women Select team got the T20 series to a flier winning the first match by six wickets at Takashinga Cricket Club on Monday before the visitors hit back to win by 6 wickets under lights on Wednesday.
With the series at stake in the decider, Zimbabwe managed to hold nerve and win.
