Zimbabwe-born American golfer Sean Crocker has qualified for next month’s 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon following his tie for third position at the Italian Open presented by Regione Emilia-Romagna on Sunday.
The Italian Open was the 10th event in the Open Qualifying Series and was played at Adriatic Golf Club.
Crocker carded rounds of 66, 71, 70 and 68 for a tournament total of nine-under par 275, finishing a shot shy of a playoff for the coveted title which was subsequently won by German Marcel Siem.
The Harare-born golf star and son of former Zimbabwe international cricketer Gary Crocker, however had the consolation of earning a place at The Open Championship along with Northern Irishman Tom McKibbin, who was edged by Siem in the playoff.
Crocker finished in a tie for third with Jannik De Bruyn but gained the Open berth thanks to his world ranking.
