    Zimbabwe off to a winning start in Rwanda

    Zimbabwe Women’s High Performance Centre got their Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament off to a winning start after beating Nigeria Women by 6 runs Kigali, Rwanda.

    It was the opening day of the 11th edition of the event which will conclude on June 14.

    A total of nine countries namely Brazil, Cameroon, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda are taking part in the tournament.

    The Zimbabwean team batted first and posted 104 for 8 with opener Christabel Chatonzwa top scoring with 28 runs from 13 balls while Moreen Tsuma struck a run a ball 23.

    Chiyedza Dhururu and Salem Museka were the only other batters to reach double figures after they both contributed 11 runs apiece.

    Rachael Samson was the pick of the Nigeria bowlers with 3 wickets for 24 while Liliane Ude and Kehinde Amusa grabbed two wickets each.

    In the chase Nigeria lost their first two wickets with just nine runs on the board player of the match Passionate Munorwei getting the wicket of opener Eseigbe Favour for jus 1 runs and captain Nomvelo Sibanda dismissing Sandy Michael for a duck.

    Sarah Ekwin was the top scorer for Nigeria with 19 runs from 16 balls while Amusa batting at number 7 contributed 17 runs.

    Ude managed 16 and Adeshola Adenkul 15 as the the West Africans finished on 98 for 7.

    Munorwei took 3 wickets for 19 to win the player of the match accolade with Sibanda grabbing 2 wickets for 20 runs.

    The other wicket went to Mavhunga while one was a runout.

    The next match for Zimbabwe is on Thursday against Uganda Women at 9.30am.
