Zimbabwean triple jump star Theo Mudzengerere continued his impressive comeback season by breaking the University of Kentucky record in his first outdoor appearance for the school at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville.

The rising US-based athlete produced a stunning leap of 16.83m to win the triple jump event in emphatic fashion.

Mudzengerere’s jump shattered the previous University of Kentucky record of 16.48m, which had been set by Luke Brown at the same meet two years ago.

It was a major statement from Mudzengerere, who has been working his way back to top form after struggling with injuries last year.

His latest mark not only secured victory in Gainesville but also moved him to No. 1 in the NCAA rankings, underlining his status as one of the leading collegiate triple jumpers in the United States.

The strong outdoor start comes after a memorable indoor season for the Zimbabwean, highlighted by his victory at the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Texas last month.

After battling injuries in 2025, Mudzengerere now appears back to his best and is building serious momentum ahead of the rest of the outdoor season.

His rise is another major boost for Zimbabwean athletics, with the country continuing to produce world-class talent in the jumps and sprint events.
