US-bound teenage golfer Tanaka Chatora clinched the 2025 Chapman Grand Slam, finishing the tournament at 1-over par 217 at Chapman Golf Club on Sunday.
Chatora carded rounds of 72, 72, and 73, securing a commanding six-shot lead over his closest competitors, Tariro November and Mudiwa Chikochi, who both finished at 7-over 223.
Despite his decisive victory, Chatora expressed some reservations about his performance.
“For a course that I am not particularly fond of, I think I played well,” he remarked. “I went level and one over today. I think I was playing boring golf, maybe that’s why I didn’t play as well as I could have. I was just trying to make par on every hole and with a half chance, try to make a birdie. I am going to push to try and make my golf a bit under par.”
Chatora is preparing to depart for the United States next month, where he will further his studies and play collegiate golf at Weatherford College in Texas.
In the men’s competition, November recorded rounds of 74, 73, and 75 over 54 holes, while Chikochi posted scores of 76, 76, and 71.
Fourteen-year-old rising star Munesu Chimhini rounded out the top five, finishing at 8-over for the tournament.
Miriam Masiya emerged victorious in the ladies’ competition, delivering the best overall score of the tournament at 1-under par 215, with rounds of 71, 73, and 73.Masiya was pleased with her impressive showing.
“Today I shot 1-under par again and I am happy,” she stated after her win. “The course was very hard and fortunately I managed to achieve my target of an under par score. I would like to thank God for that.”
Nyamukondiwa, who finished in second place at 1-over par 217. Nyamukondiwa carded rounds of 76, 73, and an excellent 68 in the two-day event.
