Zimbabwean champions Scottland secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Eswatini’s Nsingizini Hotspurs at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday to take a first-leg advantage in their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie.
Cameroonian forward Neville Tengeg scored the only goal of the match in the 67th minute to give the hosts a slender lead ahead of next weekend’s return fixture in Eswatini.
Nsingizini Hotspurs were reduced to 10 men just three minutes into the contest when defender Kingsley Kwayki was shown a red card following a crude tackle on Moses Shidolo.
Despite playing with a numerical advantage for most of the match, Scottland were unable to find a breakthrough in the opening half.
Tengeg eventually broke the deadlock after 67 minutes, with his goal proving enough to give the Zimbabwean champions the advantage.
Scottland will now travel to Eswatini for the second leg at the Somhlolo National Stadium next weekend, where they will look to protect their narrow lead and progress to the next round of the competition.
