London- England-born Zimbabwean boxer Jermaine Dhliwayo won the Commonwealth International featherweight title with a unanimous decision over Wales’ Jacob Robinson at Harrow Leisure Centre on Saturday.
Dhliwayo, 24, is the nephew of Zimbabwe-born British heavyweight Derek Chisora. Robinson, 32, the son of Welsh boxer Steve Robinson, had been the bookmakers’ favourite going into the fight with 11 wins and one defeat.
The result was Dhliwayo’s 10th straight victory since turning professional in July 2024. He made his debut with a unanimous points win over Nicaragua’s Engel Gomez in a lightweight bout at the O2 Arena in London.
London-based Dhliwayo, who was born in Northampton and fights under the nickname “God’s Plan”, began his career mentored by Chisora, who has previously backed him to follow in his footsteps.
Before turning professional, he boxed for the London club St Pancras ABC and was crowned London amateur champion two years in a row.
