Zimbabwean mixed martial arts fighter Elvis ‘Bulawayo Bomber’Moyo completed a fairytale comeback after beating Anthony Morel from Reunion Islands to capture the heavyweight title at EFC 122 in Johannesburg on Thursday.
The fight came to a dramatic end at the World Sports Betting Arena just two seconds into round four, when Morel verbally submitted under Moyo’s relentless pressure.
At 41, the Zimbabwean former boxing champion was making a return to the cage after seven a year absence and immediately struck gold.
Last night followed disappointing cancellations of Moyo’s bare-knuckle bout against Matunga Djikisalast October.
Now, with months of frustration behind him, Moyo is now the new heavyweight champion.
In the co-main event between Faeez “Troublemaker” Jacobs made light work of challenger Sibusiso Sovendle with a brutal first-round knockout win.
The bantamweight matchup was shifted into non-title status after Sovendle missed weight.
In the other fights on the EFC 122 card Siyakudumisa Nomvemve beat Mzwandile Hlongwa by tap-out in the first round while Asiashu Tshitamba got a win by split decision over Vince Bembe after three rounds.
South Africa’s Ceileigh Niedermayr accounted for Rebecca Amongi from Uganda by unanimous decision to become the number one contender in the women’s strawweight division.
