The Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) has secured a sponsorship deal with Ponera Construction Private Limited, worth $10,000, ahead of the 2025 season kickoff this weekend.
Represented by its chief executive Julius Maredza, Ponera Construction handed over the sponsorship to ZWPSL at the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) headquarters in Harare earlier today.
The partnership, facilitated by ZIFA, aims to alleviate some of the financial concerns faced by the league, ensuring a successful new season.
ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi expressed excitement about the growing relationships in women’s football, highlighting the importance of corporate partnerships.
“We are excited by the prospects of the relationships we are building in women’s football. It’s not our day in general, but it is a women’s day where we celebrate the partnership that is being consummated today between women’s football and Bonera Construction,” Magwizi said.
“They have come in at the correct time. Our league is starting this weekend (tomorrow), so we are very excited by the decision that Bonera Construction has made to come on board. We are looking to build stronger relationships right across the board, across the Zimbabwean corporate sector. It’s one of the pillars that we see our football transforming. We are looking to develop more and more relationships.”
ZWPSL chairperson Theresa Maguraushe thanked ZIFA and Ponera Construction for the generous sponsorship, saying it would greatly benefit clubs, players, and the entire women’s football community.
“This sponsorship is a game-changer for women’s football. It’s a significant development that will have a lasting impact,” she said.
“It’s just like a poor man living in a shack, just to be told that you are now living in a palace. It is really a good development for women’s football.”
The 2025 season kicks off tomorrow with seven matches scheduled across the country, and one match on Sunday.
