FC Copenhagen director of football Kristjaan Speakman says Zimbabwe international Munashe Garananga needs regular playing time after the defender joined Danish Superliga rivals Lyngby BK on loan.
The 25-year-old centre-back has moved to Lyngby on a deal running until June 30, 2027, after Copenhagen decided that increased competition for places could limit his opportunities at the club over the coming season.
Garananga has already featured for FC Copenhagen this season, making one Superliga appearance and playing twice in UEFA Conference League qualifying.
Speakman said the move was designed to give the Zimbabwean defender a platform to play regularly and continue his development.
“Munashe needs regular playing time at this stage of his career,” Speakman said.
“As we build our squad this opportunity reduces for him over the next 12 months and Lyngby Boldklub represents a great opportunity to make an impact for a team – it’s the optimal solution for all parties.”
Garananga joined Copenhagen from Belgian club KV Mechelen in July 2024 for a reported €5 million and has made 36 appearances for the Danish club.
He was part of the Copenhagen side that won the Danish Superliga and Danish Cup in the 2024-25 season before spending the second half of last campaign on loan at Scottish Premiership club Hibernian.
The defender returned to Copenhagen at the end of that spell but has now secured another temporary move in Denmark.
For Garananga, the switch provides an opportunity to establish himself as a regular at the club, giving the Zimbabwe international another chance to gain experience at a competitive level.
Born in Harare, Garananga began his professional career with South African club Ubuntu Cape Town before moving to Belarusian side Dynamo Brest.
He joined FC Sheriff in Moldova in January 2023 and helped the club win the league and cup during the 2022-23 season.
A move to KV Mechelen followed in February 2024 before Copenhagen brought him to Denmark later that year.
Garananga has also become an established member of the Zimbabwe national team and his latest move could provide valuable regular football ahead of the Warriors’ upcoming international commitments.
